You’re out of this world! Birthday pop up box

I help out with our local parish in collaborating with the wonderful catechism teachers each Saturday. I’ve been doing this for the past 3 years and each year we guide the same class of kids to get them ready for their first communion and then on to their confirmation. (Sacrements in the Catholic Church). These kids are great and become an extension of our own families.

Well, last Saturday was the birthday of one of the boys. His mother invited us Catechists to the party so I thought to make a fun card.

Cards are really not given too much here in Italy. They tend to think of the them along the same lines as Halloween…”an Anglo-Saxon” tradition.  But…that is changing a bit. More and more paper crafting sites are popping up online where I can find my supplies without have to order from the States.

So, back to the card. I wanted to make something special for him that really is never seen here. I have Lawn Fawn’s  “Out of This World” stamp set. I stamped them in Memento Tuxedo Black and colored away with my Copic markers. I had some star adhesives and added those as well. I used Distress Inks on the panels to make it look like space with splashes of water and then used my white gel pen to add stars. The sentiment of Happy Birthday was embossed in white.

The birthday boy’s eyes where huge when He opened the envelope. He’s 11 and it was perfect for him.  He couldn’t put it down. Made me feel pretty good that he liked it.
